Strasburg Mayfest Committee
Abby Walters, President
Broker/Owner of Preslee Real Estate. Preslee is vital to Mayfest’s success—we use the conference room for meetings and store supplies on-site. Abby works hard to secure sponsors each year, which is essential to making a festival of this size happen. She’s our boots on the ground during Mayfest weekend—driving her RTV around the festival doing whatever needs done: putting up tents and signs, taking them down, and even dumping ducks into the Town Run for the annual Duck Race!
Kate Sowers, Vice President
Kate is our major organizer, note-taker, agenda-maker—she keeps us on task and doesn’t miss a thing. She and Patsy coordinate all of our vendors, mapping out booth spots and managing logistics. Kate is always working to make Mayfest better every year, and our favorite tradition is sneaking a video of her dancing to the bands!
Jaynelle Bowers, Secretary
Jaynelle somehow balances running City National Bank with being an active and essential part of our committee. She does the meeting minutes, helps organize the parade and select Mayfest royalty, secures parade judges and announcers, and—along with her husband Pee Wee—provides the radios and helps on the ground during the event. She also organizes the music lineup and assists with sponsor outreach.
Wendy Williams, Treasurer
Wendy is incredible. She single handedly runs the Mayfest Pageant—planning events throughout the year, ordering beautiful crowns and sashes, and coordinating their parade float. She also manages the kids’ zone and carnival, all while handling the festival’s finances (which is basically a full-time job on top of her actual full-time job!). Wendy and her husband Tim Bob pour their hearts into this festival.
Patsy Morehead, Director
Patsy works alongside Kate to manage our vendor and crafter lineup—a huge part of the festival. This year, she also took on advertising and got us featured in local papers and on the radio. That push likely helped make this one of our biggest years yet, with over 5,000 attendees!
Mary Beth Price, Director
Owner of Box Office Brewery, Mary Beth is behind our Heels, Hops & Bowties kickoff event. She handles the food, décor, sponsor displays, and setup. She’s also fully in charge of the Duck Race—counting, bagging, selling, and running it! Her whole family participates, including her dad, John E. Taylor (our Mayfest King this year!). She and her husband Tom also help coordinate music and entertainment.
Wayne Sager, Director
Strasburg’s Chief of Police, Wayne is a key liaison between our committee and the town. A festival of this size requires major support from the Strasburg PD, and Wayne is always there to help. He also gets into the Mayfest spirit each year, dressing up for the Bowtie Competition and lending a hand with setup wherever needed.
Suzanne Matthews, Director
Suzanne is our go-to for food trucks—she maintains great relationships with vendors, brings back favorites, and finds exciting new ones (like this year’s hit pizza truck). She also handles the permitting process and coordinates dumpsters and port-o-johns. On-site during the event, she makes sure everything runs smoothly.
Mike Ashby, Director
Mike brings the fun! He runs our eating contests—cupcakes and hot dogs—which grow more popular every year. He helps coordinate volunteers and announced the Duck Race this year with great energy and enthusiasm.
